How to create time slots and set capacity

What this article covers

Time slots let customers choose when they want delivery or pickup.

Capacity controls how many orders can book each slot, so your team does not get overloaded.

What is a time slot?

A time slot is a delivery or pickup window, for example:

  • 09:00 - 12:00

  • 13:00 - 17:00

  • 18:00 - 21:00

Each slot can have:

  • Start time

  • End time

  • Active days

  • Max capacity

How to create a time slot

Go to App -> Settings -> Time Slots.

Create a slot with these fields:

  1. Start time

  2. End time

  3. Active days (which weekdays this slot is available)

  4. Max capacity (how many orders can select this slot per day)

Save the slot when done.

Repeat for each delivery window you want to offer.

How capacity works

Capacity is counted per slot, per date.

Example:

  • Slot: 13:00 - 17:00

  • Capacity: 10

When 10 orders already selected that slot on the same date, the slot is no longer available for new customers on that date.

This helps prevent overbooking.

Recommended slot setup (starting point)

For most stores, start with 2 to 4 slots:

  • Morning: 09:00 - 12:00

  • Afternoon: 13:00 - 17:00

  • Evening: 18:00 - 21:00 (optional)

Capacity suggestion:

  • Small team: 5 to 10 per slot

  • Medium team: 10 to 25 per slot

  • Large team: based on real driver/packing capacity

Adjust weekly based on actual fulfillment speed.

Important behavior to know

  • Time slots only appear on their active days

  • Full slots are hidden/blocked automatically

  • If no slots are available for a selected date, customers cannot choose a time

  • Slot availability is also affected by lead time, cutoff, holidays, and method rules

Plan limits

Time slots are limited by plan:

  • Free: up to 5 time slots

  • Standard: up to 20 time slots

  • Pro: unlimited time slots

If you hit your limit, remove unused slots or upgrade your plan.

Common mistakes

  • Overlapping slots with unclear operations

  • Capacity set too high (team cannot fulfill)

  • Capacity set too low (slots sell out too early)

  • Wrong active days selected

  • Very short slot windows that are hard to fulfill

Quick troubleshooting checklist

If customers cannot see time slots:

  1. Confirm time slots are created

  2. Confirm active day includes the selected date

  3. Confirm slot capacity is not full

  4. Check lead time and cutoff settings

  5. Check holidays/blackout dates

  6. Check delivery method settings (time selection enabled)

In short

  • Create clear slot windows

  • Set realistic capacity per slot

  • Review and adjust based on real order volume

Good time slot design improves customer experience and keeps your operations stable.
